WHY I WALK 16 years ago at the beginning of my senior year of college I learned I had Stage 3 Kidney disease after being hospitalized for a kidney stone. At that time, I learned my right kidney was atrophied and probably didn't function and was at 33% kidney function with damage from the kidney stone. Pretty dire news for someone who literally never had the flu. From then on I tried to live a healthy lifestyle to prolong the health of my kidney. Unfortunately, there is no way to reverse kidney damage and someday I would need a kidney transplant. On June 2nd, 2023 my sister selflessly gave a kidney to me. I am forever indebted to her kindness and walk to honor her! I hope she inspires others to become living donors. I walk to raise funds to advance kidney research to find new & better solutions for people facing a disease with no cure. There are so many areas of kidney health that need to be explored to improve the lives of kidney patients. It can be an unseen disease with some people not having symptoms until dialysis is the only option.
