Why We Walk

This is our first year joining this amazing organization at the Detroit Zoo. As a new supporter, I am extremely impressed with the valuable resources that the National Kidney Foundation offers to families like ours. Our oldest son Ethan, was diagnosed at age 4 with an incurable kidney disease called Alport. For the past 11 years, he has been tested regularly at Motts Childrens Hospital to monitor his kidney function.  We have always known that he would require a kidney transplant and with all of our research along with statistics of the disease, kidney failure generally begins in their mid 20's.  Ethan's test results in November showed 68% kidney function and unfortunately his February results have decreased to 38%. We are currently in the early stages of finding a donor match. Again, the amazing resources that the Kidney Foundation has to offer, will help us navigate this next chapter of our lives.

We are walking to support the life changing work of the National Kidney Foundation along with bringing awareness to Alport disease. Please join us and consider supporting our efforts with a donation to this incredible organization.
