Dear Family and Friends I am writing to you about my husband Salvatore Gencarelli . It's to let you know about his current health challenge and how you can help. This is not easy for me to post. As some of you may already know, Sal is suffering from end stage kidney failure. He did not know until his early 30's that he was born with only one kidney. Did you know that 1 in 1,000 people are born with only one? Sal has been under close medical care since then. However, on May 26, 2023 his kidney function was working at only 3% and started dialysis. Sal has been making great strides with lifestyle changes to better his health and has been accepted and placed on the Michigan and National Kidney Transplant lists. The average wait time for a donor in Michigan is 4 to 6 years. He is also waiting to hear back from the University of Toledo team. Sal spends approximately 4 hours 3 times a week on dialysis. As wonderful as technology is this is not a quality of life. Sal needs a new kidney. Sal is out mayor of Gencarelliville he is our rock. He's hard working and loves his family fiercely. He's caring and always puts everyone first. We are hoping you or maybe someone you know would consider being tested as a match and donor. It's as simple as a blood test. If you would like to learn more about becoming a living donor please contact the Corewell Health pre-transplant Nurse Coordinator Ambere Wierzbicki 248-551-9852 or please reach out to Sal and myself. Thank you for your consideration. With hope and love, Amy #gcrewstrong 💚

Why I Walk
I walk because too many families (like mine) are coping with this devastating chronic illness, and thousands more will face an unexpected kidney disease diagnosis in the year to come.I walk to support the lifechanging work of the National Kidney Foundation:
- To ensure that families will have a place to turn when they need answers.
- To keep up the fight for policy changes to protect kidney patients and living donors.
- To drive innovation in transplantation and get more loved ones off the kidney transplant waitlist.
Are you with me?
Please consider supporting my efforts with a generous donation.
