Strut For Soph
Strut for Soph
Unlike our situation, the majority of people with end-stage kidney failure need to wait much longer to find their match. In general, the average wait time can be anywhere from 3 to 8 years at most centers. Typically, while waiting for a transplant, CKD sufferers also need to undergo dialysis treatments several times a week as their kidney function fails. Sophie received her transplant quickly and avoided dialysis. This is clearly a blessing and is my primary motivator to fundraise for others in situations not as fortunate and straightforward as Sophie's.
The National Kidney Foundation sponsors an Annual Kidney Walk in which my family and I will participate. We will walk this June (on Team "StrutForSoph"!) for the families that are coping with this devastating chronic illness, and thousands more who will face an unexpected kidney disease diagnosis in the year to come. I will walk to support the unending work of the National Kidney Foundation:
*To drive innovation in transplantation and get more loved ones off the kidney transplant waitlist!
*To ensure families have a place to turn when they need answers.
*To work towards policy changes that protect kidney patients and living donors.
Please consider supporting my efforts with a monetary gift (in the "Donate" box section). I truly believe that, together, we can make a difference for those struggling with CKD. We will be thinking of you in June as we StutForSoph!
Gratefully,
Elie Sabo
