My journey began at the beginning of June 2021 when I was diagnosed with stage 5 kidney disease. I ended up in the hospital August 1 with pancreatitis. On August 2rd my creatinine level spiked to 28.65 and the doctors determined I needed and emergency catheter. August 3rd I went through my 1st dialysis session. Over the last year my life has been completely flipped upside down. I am a paid on call firefighter. It is my absolute passion in life. I was born to serve those in need! But my health has prevented me from being able to respond to calls. Dialysis has gotten harder and harder on me. I'm no longer able to work. I spend most dialysis days laying around and sleeping. My home feels like a prison most days. The mental challenges are just as tough as the physical challenges. While I have an enormous amount of things to be greatful for, it is impossible to not get depressed at times, thinking about the life I currently have versus the life I should have. I walk in hopes that someday, someone, somewhere will not have to walk the journey I am walking. Joining my team and walking with me would mean the world to me!
