Why We Walk

As many of you know, back in March 2020 (not Covid related), my mom's kidneys took a tremendous hit in their functionality. To this day we still don't know the cause of her kidney failure. Basically her kidneys said, "no, we're not gonna work for you anymore." Over the next year and a half, she went through a lot of ups and downs with her overall health.

Unfortunately her kidney function kept getting worse and her options were either dialysis and put on the waitlist until a match became available. Or receive a kidney from a live donor. The wait list is 5+ years. After some family discussions and thorough testing, I was confirmed to be a match for her transplant.
On October 6, 2021, Mom was able to receive my kidney. Our transplant surgeons did a phenomenal job as both surgeries went well. Within a few hours the donated kidney started functioning for her! Her life was saved. God had a plan and He is good!

We are walking to support the lifechanging work of The National Kidney Foundation.  This foundation ensures that families will have a place to turn to when they need answers on kidney disease.  Their mission is to protect the transplant policies for both the kidney patients and living donors. The National Kidney Foundation is at the forefront of transplantation innovation which enables more loved ones to become matches for those on the kidney transplant waitlist.
Too many families (like mine) are coping with a life altering chronic kidney illness, and thousands more will face an unexpected kidney disease diagnosis in the year to come.

This foundation helped saved my mom's life and you can be apart of saving the life of someone else.
