Why I Walk

I walk in memory of my mom and dad, Sharon & Gordon Shaffer. Both suffered from kidney disease. 
My mom's kidneys failed when she was in her 20s, and she had two transplants during her life. Her first donor was her mother.
That inspired my dad to start helping the community, and he volunteered with the National Kidney Foundation of Colorado for over 20 years.
Eventually, he developed kidney disease as well, and was on dialysis for the last 10 years of his life.

The money raised will stay in Colorado to help the local branch of the NKF:
     - To ensure that families will have a place to turn when they need answers.
     - To keep up the fight for policy changes to protect kidney patients and living donors.
     - To drive innovation in transplantation and get more loved ones off the kidney transplant waitlist.
