What we thought was a cold led our family to the emergency room in September 2003.

Back in 2003, our five-month-old daughter Sarah ended up in critical condition in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Rainbow with kidney failure. She was suffering from End Stage Renal Disease with multiple catheters and a feeding tube that resulted in emergency kidney removal.

In October 2004, I donated my right kidney to Sarah, who was 18-months-old at the time.

Sarah had to endure a year of daily dialysis, multiple medications, formulas and injections before she could receive the transplant. Our family traveled to Cincinnati and returned home a month later, Sarah with a new, functioning kidney.

The miracle we had hoped for had happened and Sarah was restarting her life as an 18-month-old little girl.

Now, Sarah is a healthy and active college student at The Ohio State University completing her freshmen year.  Go Sarah!

I walk because too many families (like mine) are coping with this devastating chronic illness, and thousands more will face an unexpected kidney disease diagnosis in the years to come.

I walk to support the lifechanging work of the National Kidney Foundation:
     - To ensure that families will have a place to turn when they need answers.
     - To keep up the fight for policy changes to protect kidney patients and living donors.
     - To drive innovation in transplantation and get more loved ones off the kidney transplant waitlist.

Are you with me?

Please consider supporting my efforts with a generous donation.
