Chad's Veery Renal Journey
Why We Walk
Chad's journey with kidney disease is unique to him but shares many similarities to the thousands of people with chronic kidney disease that progresses to kidney failure. His journey began at birth with congenital posterior urethral valves obstructing the flow of urine out of the bladder which required surgical repair. He was left with bladder dysfunction, recurring infections, and chronic kidney disease worsening to kidney failure over the years. Chad was fortunate to receive two living-related kidney transplants, first at age 17 from his sister and second at age 26 from his mother. Twenty years ago when the second kidney failed, he started on home hemodialysis, which he continues today. Despite these challenges, Chad thrives, pursuing his passions that connect him to nature through gardening, art, and birding.
This year the newly formed team, is named after Chad and his favorite bird, the Veery. We are joining others, walking in support of the Kidney Community through education, patient support, advocacy, early detection, and driving innovation in chronic kidney disease treatment, dialysis & transplantation.
We look forward to walking with you at Connor Prairie. A chance to get out in nature while supporting and fundraising for an important cause, to improve the lives of kidney patients in our community and across the country.
Will you join us?
