Raising Awareness for a New Generation

Hello! Thank you for finding my fundraising page! My name is Meighan, and I am a living kidney donor. Just after COVID I found out a friend of mine was hospitalized with dual kidney failure at the age of 22. She could no longer live her young adult life filled with snack foods, sleepovers, or even the occasional soda pop! When I saw her family's post asking for a donor to come forward, I felt the call to get tested for a match. After passing that blood test (and many more!) I was cleared to donate one of my healthy kidneys to her. We are two years out from our transplant surgery, and we are both healthy and back to living our young adult lives to the fullest!

Through this process I learned so much about kidney failure, dialysis, and the risks of waiting for a kidney over a long period of time. Did you know it is not recommended to donate a kidney over the age of 40? I felt fortunate to have been 23 and called to complete the donation testing. But there are plenty of other young, healthy people who can also help those in need of a transplant! I walk to raise awareness about how young people can be involved in helping improve the quality of life for patients living with kidney disease.
